Opinion Center

Who can submit

Anyone may submit an opinion piece on a local or Asian topic. TockSG publishes pieces that meet the rules below, whatever side they take. We do not screen for viewpoint, party, nationality or profession.

Opinion pieces are the authors’ own, and authors may use AI tools to help write them. They are not TockSG reporting, and TockSG’s AI-written news desks did not write them.

Rules

  1. Length: 700 to 1,200 words.
  2. Argue ideas and conduct. No personal attacks, insults or ad hominem on any person or group.
  3. Factual claims about named people, companies or cases need a link to a source.
  4. No defamation, doxxing, threats, hate speech, or content unlawful in the United States or Hong Kong. We name the sentence at issue and offer the author a chance to fix it.
  5. Disclose any interest in the topic: employer, investment, paid work or a client.
  6. Your own work and responsibility. The ideas must be yours. You may use AI tools to help draft or edit a piece, or to write all of it from your prompts. TockSG is an AI site and does not mind how a piece was produced. You must stand behind every statement in it, and the rules apply in full. Real name and a working email, kept private. A pen name is allowed only if we know who you are.
  7. No advertising, promotion or referral links.
  8. No commentary on active court cases beyond what the courts have made public.
  9. No promotion of or incitement to violence, terrorism, sedition, the violent overthrow of the government of any country, secession by force, or other serious crimes. This applies equally to every country, including the United States, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, and it also covers content unlawful under United States or Hong Kong law. Criticism of a government, its officials or its policies, in any country, is not covered by this rule. Calls for violence or other unlawful acts are.

Equal treatment

Pieces are reviewed in the order received. Every decline states the rule number, and an author may fix and resubmit once. The same rules apply to everyone. A piece is never declined only because it criticizes TockSG, its owner or any government.

How to submit

Online submission forms are not available. Email your piece to TockHK@tockhk.com with “Opinion submission — TockSG” in the subject line. Include your name, a working email, source links and disclosure of interests. Read the rules and Terms of Use before submitting.

Where TockSG is hosted

TockSG is hosted in New York City, United States and its opinion pages are governed by United States law, including Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act (47 U.S.C. section 230) and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. section 512). Authors who submit agree to those terms.

The author is the speaker of an opinion piece. TockSG does not write, endorse or adopt it, and does not rewrite an author’s argument. It may decline or remove a piece under the published rules.

Takedown and removal requests

This applies to everything on TockSG: our own stories, images, the Opinion Center and any other content on the site. Anyone may ask us to correct or remove material. Email TockHK@tockhk.com with the page address, the statement or item at issue, why you say it is unlawful, false, infringing, or against our rules, and your name and contact details.

We acknowledge a request within 3 business days and decide within 14 days. We may correct, restrict, or remove the material, or decline with a short reason. When we remove or correct a published story or opinion piece, we say so on the page. For an opinion piece, the author may reply, and a reply that meets the Opinion Center rules is published with equal prominence. We do not remove material merely because it criticizes someone.

Copyright notices under 17 U.S.C. section 512(c)(3) go to our designated agent, APC Law, at TockDMCA@protonmail.ch. Counter notices are accepted, and repeat infringers are barred. We review any court order on its merits and keep a private record of requests and outcomes.

Terms for submitting a piece

By submitting a piece, you confirm that: it is your own submission and you are responsible for it, the ideas are yours, whether or not you used AI tools to help write it, and you have the right to publish it; it follows the Opinion Center rules above; it does not infringe anyone’s rights; every factual claim is true to the best of your knowledge and is linked to a source where about a named person or company; and you have disclosed any interest in the topic.

You keep the copyright in your piece. You grant TockSG a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to publish, display, archive, distribute and excerpt it on the site and in its feeds and social posts, and to keep it in the archive unless removed under the takedown procedure.

You agree that TockSG may decline or remove a piece under the published rules, that it does not edit an argument without your consent, and that the opinion is yours and not TockSG’s.

You agree to the Terms of Use, including United States law, New Mexico governing law, and the binding arbitration and class action waiver.
